Grant Gager joins effort to restore passenger rail

The potential to reinvigorate Montana’s passenger rail system got a possible boost from the Livingston quarter this week. Park County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Livingston, Montana City Manager Grant Gager to the board of the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority.

The authority, established in 2020 by 12 rural and urban Montana counties, seeks to expand and enhance passenger rail service throughout the state and the greater northwest region “for the development of economic, environmental, social, and comprehensive benefits, now and into the future,” according to its mission statement. Gager’s prior public service has included a stint as contract administrator for Orange County, California’s transportation authority, OCTA and as a contract administrator for the Metro North Railroad Grand Central Terminal of New York, according to Park County Commissioner Bill Berg.
