Rail Authority, Amtrak and FRA Look to Raise Funding for Malta Area Improvements

The Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority, Amtrak, and the Federal Railroad Administration look to raise funding to perform railroad infrastructure improvements of the Malta area.

Malta is currently a constriction point for both freight and passenger trains and so, if we can open that up and add additional infrastructure that would accommodate both freight and passenger trains that will allow for the opportunity for Amtrak trains to be on time more often. It allows for the free flow of freight traffic and ultimately, since on either end of the North coast Hiawatha route through North Dakota and Montana this route connects up with the Empire Builder route in Fargo and Sand Point, anything we can do to benefit the Empire Builder and the hi-line will actually benefit transportation in Southern Montana.”-Dave Strohmaier, Chairman of Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority.
